The Team

This is an ad-hoc team of artists and designers assembled to work on TRANSPORT. The team was initially a collaboration between Isabella Stefanescu and Carlito Ghioni, who conceived, researched and produced a prototype of TRANSPORT as part the 2007/2008 Telus Interactive Arts and Entertainment residency at the Canadian Film Centre Media Lab.

Isabella Stefanescu, the project coordinator, is a visual artist, writer and activist based in Kitchener-Waterloo. Born in Romania, Stefanescu came to Canada as a teenager and studied mathematics and fine arts at the University of Waterloo. She started exhibiting in 1992 in public and private galleries. Stefanescu is one of the founding members of Globe Studios, the only artist run centre in Waterloo region, and one of the founders of CAFKA (Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area). In 2007 Stefanescu was awarded the OAC administered K.M. Hunter Prize for emerging artists in integrated arts.

Carlito Ghioni is a film writer and director who has directed one full length feature film, sixteen documentaries, numerous shorts and one interactive documentary. Born in Italy, Ghioni studied film history at the University of Turin. He came to Canada in 1999 and studied at the Vancouver Film School and at INIS (Institut National de l'Image et du Son) in Montreal. Ghioni has over 10 years' experience as a cinematographer, and his documentaries and shorts have been shown at various festivals such as Edmonton Global Vision, Bologna Visione Italiane, Teheran Film Festival, Bombay Film Festival and Monferrato Film Festival.

Nick Storring provides the original music and has been brought on the project because of his experience in writing electro-acoustic composition. He studied composition at Wirlfried Laurier University. His electronic music has appeared at the Open Ears Festival in Kitchener, the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony's New Orchestra series, NUMUS concerts, and at the 20th Anniversary of the Maison-de-culture NDG in Montreal. He recently placed in the top ten in the Canada-wide Jeux de Temps/ Times Play. Nick Storring collaborated with Isabella Stefanescu on The Notebook Project (2006).

Klaus Engel was brought on this project because of his experience with sensors technology. An engineer and designer, he is staff scientist at ComDev, a company specializing in the design and fabrication of satellite components. Engel is the author of numerous patents. He consulted for second phase of The Notebook Project interface and is currently working with Stefanescu on the Euphonopen, an electronic musical instrument that translates drawings into sound.
